4 Destinations Near Williamsburg North

Looking for a quick getaway? With Williamsburg North’s central location and proximity to the interstate and major crosstown roadways, you’re never far from one of our area’s best day trip destinations. You can drive to any of the four locations we’re highlighting below in less than 30 minutes. So pack a lunch, your bicycle, or your dog, and head out to one of these Indianapolis destinations:

North: Flat Fork Creek Park
About 27 minutes away, Flat Fork Creek Park in Fishers offers 60 acres for visitors to explore. In the winter, the 60-foot sledding hill is the main attraction, but this park has features that visitors can enjoy any time of year.

Stroll along a paved multi-use trail and boardwalk, or hone your mountain biking skills on the technical trail. An ADA-accessible treehouse offers views of the park, and a stocked fishing pond awaits anglers (don’t forget to get your Indiana fishing license first).

South: Garfield Park
The Garfield Park Conservatory and Sunken Garden in Indianapolis is about 23 minutes south of Williamsburg North. Currently, visitors must pay in advance to tour the conservatory (admission is between $2 and $4), and it’s well worth the cost to see the magnificent array of tropical flowers, plants, and colorful fish swimming in small ponds. If you prefer a stroll outside, the sunken garden provides three acres of display gardens to explore.

The park also has walking trails, tennis courts, a pool, and an amphitheater.

East: Pennsy Trail
With a trailhead located only 25 minutes away (found behind Meijer on East Washington Street), Pennsy Trail is a mixed-use, lightly trafficked rail trail. This wide, paved trail is ideal for walking, biking, running, and hiking. Bring the dog, too (as long as they’re leashed)!
West: Nina Mason Pulliam EcoLab
For those who are conservation-minded or wanting to pass on a love of the environment to the next generation, the Nina Mason Pulliam EcoLab at Marian University is an easily accessible resource, only about 20 minutes away.

An interactive, hands-on learning environment, the NMP EcoLab offers science programming and environmental stewardship. Join a bird watch walk, watch beavers build at the main pond, or take advantage of the EcoLab’s monthly nature and history programs and events. Check their website for current offerings.
